Bhutan celebrates festival in all of its 20 districts in honour of Guru Rinpoche, the saint who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan in the 8th century. Ever since the festival is celebrated on the auspicious month and days of Bhutanese calendar in monasteries or dzongs (fortresses).

who can perform and why it is practised?
The monks and in some cases people from the locality prepares month ahead perfecting the mask dances with meditation and prayers as it is an aspiration of enlightenment and watching it can wash away all sins and gain merits. People’s faith and devotion make the festivals very special and thousands of people gather to get blessed and spent quality time with their families.
Some of the popular festival happening in Bhutan is Thimphu Tshechu, Paro Tshechu and Punakha Tshechu, with good road connectivity and event happening on spring and autumn season, we get quite a number of visitor and we recommend booking tour few months in advance to secure your booking.
Other festivals in eastern Bhutan has its own charm but inorder to visit, one must spend minimum of 10 days or more as its quite far from the capital city of Thimphu but those who wants to know more about remote parts and have flexible days, it is highly recommended.
Just to make the tour bit interesting, we organise picnic pack lunch during the trek to Tiger’s nest, Tango cheri monastery or during the festival time and chance to visit local farmhouse after the sightseeing for dinner and may be spent a night or two if interested otherwise proper 3 star rated hotel or resorts shall be arranged.
Lets not forget the hotstone bath: a relaxing hotstone bath after the trek can be ritual in itself and you can opt for luxuriuos one or a local farmhouse version but either way it can be very relaxing and rejuvenating.
Simply Bhutan, a live museum in Thimphu which not only preserve ancient culture and tradition but also gives an opportunity for tourist to play archery and dart. You can also meet Pema Tshering who is a talented craftsman, using only his feet to carve.
